I heard there was this “13 reasons why” series and what it was about. After I heard that one sentence explaining what the series was about… I was no longer paying attention to the details. The word “ways or reasons to commit suicide” sent my thoughts far away.
I remember a child on the fourth storey of a building precariously hanging onto the ledge of the balcony. I remember a teenager lost in darkness and hopelessness crashing the car in drunkenness. I remember a young mother with a knife on her wrist. I remember a mother of two pressing on the accelerator paddles all the way down without consciousness of what she is doing. I remember a teenagers mom who almost leaped out of a 100ft window whilst arguing with her husband. And the many days and times she would just sit there thinking it’s better to die than to live, all her life.
Many of us don’t need a specific reason why. Every situation that we cannot comprehend or overcome was a reason why. We have lost our way. We have lost the way to live. We live in a dysfunctional life. Our parents are dysfunctional. Our government is dysfunctional. Our judicial system is dysfunctional. Our education system is dysfunctional. Even our church is dysfunctional. Nothing works anymore. When you have this realisation is when your inner spirit is awaken.
The inner spirit is from the Creator. He gave us a guide to help us know what is good for us. The inner spirit knows goodness. The inner spirit knows kindness. The inner spirit knows what is love and how to be loved. But we, have been tainted. Tainted by the evils of the worldliness. Some spend their years searching.. to match the inner spirit’s calling. Unfortunately, we look in the wrong places. We look to this world, things of this world, the only thing we know.
But the things of the spirit is not from here. It is in the spiritual realm. Some believed in angels. Some believe in religions. Some seek powers of the spiritual. And some got so confused, they totally reject it because the mind cannot comprehend it.
The Creator cannot be comprehended. It is beyond us to comprehend Him. Are you able to tell how the Universe exist? How the earth sits on an axis and spins for day and night and journeys around the sun? Don’t try to comprehend Him. But let your spirit be drawn to Him. He will teach you His ways. His ways leads you to live a peaceful & prosperous life. Some say “why should we learn from Him?” Well, He know we have failed. He knows we now live in a dysfunctional world. He knows we need His help. If we knew how to live this life of ours, we wouldn’t be trying to leave it. We wouldn’t be thinking of dying. We wouldn’t be messing up our lives and live in hurt. Jesus wouldn’t need to go to the cross. We need Him to guide us through.
Many people think that God is testing us. This is not a test. God simply loves us because He created mankind. He is trying to save us from this dysfunctional system that man has created, destroying themselves. Notice that all the drinking, partying, smoking, drugs, non marital sexual activities, shopping etc, is just damping our senses. It numbs our pains temporarily. It numbs our loneliness. It numbs our mind to the things we cannot comprehend. The more we continue in that path, we become slaves to it. All this does not bring us the love, the peace, the joy our inner spirit is yearning for. But it is destroying our health, our character, our purity, our peace. Somehow, the world will make you believe you are doing ok. Your senses have been dampened to the things of God.
God says He will always a provide a way out. For a long time, I have been wondering what is the way out, where is the way out. How can I change for ‘a way out’. Going to church is not a way out. Being in ministry is not a way out. Doing good is not a way out. Pretending your life is ok is not a way out. Praying for your troubles to go away is not a way out. Praying for people to go away from you is not a way out.
The way out is to confess to Him that you need Him to help you turn from the things of this world that have enslaved you.
Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. “He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. – Psalm 91:14-15
And then do no more of the things that have enslaved you.
“And then get up and sin no more”, Jesus says – John 8:11
It is a conscious decision “to do no more” of the things that once enslaved me. It became a ‘constant temptation’ to quit my relationship with God and go back to the old. It was always a habit and an easy way to cope.. the only way I knew how. Many times I had almost succumbed to the old ways. But I said to myself “NEVER AGAIN”.
Never again will I go back to my sins
Never again will I be used by the devil
Never again will I leave my God
Never again.
Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly – Proverbs 26:11
Because I knew what it was like without Jesus in my life. Never again will I live my life that way. Most of us have spent 20 years and more in school.. learning about the things of the world and how-to in this world. We have Diplomas & Degrees and PhD. Now I am invested in learning the ‘mysteries’ of God for the rest of my life. There is an eternity to this. Everything in this world will pass away. Your spirit will not. We will face the Creator one day. Things we cannot comprehend will be made known to us.
Churches are not all that great I admit. They have been compromised. But nonetheless, seek Him with all your heart and He will lead you. There will be wolves in sheepskins, there will be children of darkness that lures you back to the old, there will be thorns and weeds. Child of God, earnestly seek Him.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. – Matthew 5:8
Hope, is not lost. Let us fight a good fight and finish the race.
